Summary We seek an experienced scientist with knowledge and training in bioinformatics. This person will serve as the core bioinformatics specialist for the Department of Ophthalmology. The employee will work closely with multiple departmental labs on vision science related bioinformatics analysis, including training various lab personnel on pipelines the scientist develops. Analysis pipelines will be developed for transcriptomic, proteomic, and epigenomic analysis for bulk and single cell analysis. The scientist will also create ophthalmology-specific analysis, assist with data sharing among ophthalmology faculty and the scientific community, and facilitate deposits of data into repositories. This staff member will also help with reanalysis of existing literature omics data at the request of investigators. Excellent medical, dental and vision coverage effective on your very first day 2:1 Match on retirement savings Responsibilities* The staff member will: Interface with Department of Ophthalmology investigators and complete projects or be available for consultation or training of laboratory members. Develop standardized analysis pipelines for bulk and single-cell transcriptomic, proteomic, and epigenetic analysis on the Great Lakes computing cluster. Analyze project data and provide custom ophthalmology-specific analysis tools for investigator - for example, building gene set enrichment databases specific to cell types in the eye; and sorting through publicly available analysis tools and providing those tools, with explanations on how to use them, on an intranet. Curate and make available -omics datasets from Kellogg researchers so they can be easily queried by other researchers at Kellogg (through web interface tools i.e. Shiny), which will facilitate collaboration and minimize duplicative/expensive -omics projects. Pull together -omics datasets from the literature that are relevant for projects at Kellogg, providing a "meta-analysis" of the datasets. Training of laboratory staff will include sharing of pipeline code, educating on data cleaning and batch correction, teaching laboratory members how to use new analysis tools. Required Qualifications* Bachelor's degree Willingness to learn new methods and pipeline development by interacting with others Knowledge of R and python is required Willingness to help train others Ability to read literature and learn vision science Strong ability to prioritize and tackle multiple projects in parallel and excellent communication skills. Desired Qualifications* Master's degree or PhD in Bioinformatics is preferred 3-5 years of bioinformatics experience is desired with direct experience with multiomic analysis is highly preferred including transcriptomic, epigenomic, and proteomic analysis in bulk and/or single cell tissues. Experience with Shiny web interface development using R and python is desired but not required. The candidate should have experience with biological questions and systems, ideally with exposure or prior collaborations with biomedical scientists in any discipline. Experience with vision science directly is desired but not required. Background Screening Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
